(Automatic) Template operating instructions for iDPRT desktop barcode printers

As we know there are cases when we operate printers without the need for connection to a computer. Users can operate with keyboard or scanner by USB connection, or inserting USB stick.
So it is quite convenient, you don’t need to take any other equipment with you (such as another computer/laptop).
Application: For example in automotive industry, it takes time for engineers to learn printer programming languages, maintain individual printer programming code for different label formatting. Especially that it is difficult to manage different equipment for printing & store operations in limited space. But with standalone printing, they could save label templates in printer so that only variable data need to be sent for label printing.

Below are the instructions for iDPRT desktop barcode printers stand alone usage:

1、Template edit instructions

^XA

^DFR:TEST.ZPL^FS This command indicates that the current data is used for template settings

^PW800  This command sets the width to be printed

^FO160,120 This command sets the starting coordinates of the content to be printed

^BCN,120,Y,N,N^FD^FN1^FS  This command is a barcode printing instruction, and the barcode content is represented by the ^FN1. When calling the template, the printed content will print the barcode according to the content of this and variable.

^PQ1,0,1,Y  This command indicates that 1 label is printed when the template is called

^XZ

The following is example for reference about the instructions for printing barcode labels:

When the user issues these instructions, the printer will immediately print a bar code label

2、Test process：

Sample：iT4E（203dpi）     tested firmware version：idprt_V10.03.03.ext4

2.1、Save the above template as a PRN file, for example：Code128.prn

2.2、Template mode

2.2.1、Use iDPRTUtility tool，download the template（for example：Code128.prn）to the printer

2.2.2、Select a label format and run

Intelligent printing-->File operation-->label format-->Select“Code128.zpl.prn”-->Run the format

2.3、Automatic template mode
